In our downtime this week, I made a wedding cake for my good friend and colleague Pavlina Hatoupis and her incredible now husband, Ely Menin. The top tier is a lemon butter cake, made with the lemons from our front yard. The bottom and third tier are classic yellow cakes with italian buttercream frosting. The second tier is a carrot cake topped with cream cheese italian buttercream and home candied carrots. Here are some photos after the sun had softened the frosting and left it a little less picturesque.
Marzipan wedding toppers made on the spot by the extremely talented Yukiwo Miura!

Summer Drawing Show presents a varied group of artists: each utilizing the drawn line in their own highly personal way, each with an aesthetic instantly recognizable as their own.
Summer has been quite well stocked with great projects.
We are shooting our feature film Fly Away, with some of my favorite ladies in Los Angeles. Check out our process on our blog for the movie.
We wrapped our film, Like Crazy. a week ago. This film, directed by Drake Doremus and shot by John Gulesarian, was dear to my heart and I hope to have some stills of our sets to show soon.
Last month, we production designed a comedy short directed by David Mamet and shot by Robert Elswit. It can be found here. I have to note that we made it chinsy on purpose. I think that’s pretty obvious.
If you haven’t yet, please reach out and help our friend face a struggle to stay in the country he calls home. Visit FREEKUTMAH.COM and take action. He’s such a positive force in our community and we’d like to keep him here.
Please support Justin “Kutmah” McNulty in his deportation defense.
He is facing immediate deportation unless we can reopen his case and show the authorities how vital it is for Justin to stay in our lives. This vibrant artist, dj and producer is a beloved member of the Los Angeles creative community. Help Kutmah remain in the United States!
Kutmah was born in the UK to an Egyptian mother and Scottish father. He moved to the US with
his mother when he was 12 years old. They immediately applied for US residency to keep them from being sent to Egypt. The US court ruled that as a British citizen he would be able to live in the UK and denied their application. Kutmah and his Mom returned to court to plead their case 14 years ago when Kutmah was 20. They were again denied a green card and were urged to sign a document stating they would voluntary leave the US.
On Wednesday morning, May 5th armed Immigration agents entered Kutmah’s house and detained him. He was brought to a facility in downtown LA where he was interrogated. On Thursday he was moved to an INS detention facility in New Mexico and can be expelled from the country at any moment. We need to show how important Kutmah is to the LA and US community.
